In the beginning, The Continuity Pages, begun in 1996, was housed on the personal website of Julian Darius. As that website changed, so too did The Continuity Pages, initially pages filled with copious undecorated tables of information. After that website became PersianCaesar.com in February 2001, The Continuity Pages, increasingly graphical, became considerably successful, soon including essays and articles by Darius as well as The Continuity Pages proper. In late August 2002, ContinuityPages.com was born. With its distinct identity, ContinuityPages.com, with Darius remaining as editor, began accepting the work of other writers. At its launch, it featured the review column Optic Verve by Matt Martin and the column Sequential Culture by Julian Darius.
The site has grown with remarkable speed for such a small but dedicated operation. A few milestones of 2003, the site's first year, are worth noting here. Beginning in early January 2003, ContinuityPages.com could also be accessed through ContinuityPage.com in case the address was mistyped. ContinuityPages.com passed the 100,000 visits mark in February 2003, the 200,000 visits mark in May, and the 300,000 visits mark in August. August 2003 also saw the debut of the review column New Comics Day by Bryan Miller. A news column, The Comics Blotter by Julian Darius, premiered in late October 2003. In November, ContinuityPages.com passed the 400,000 visits mark.
2004 is shaping up to be the best year ever. In January, the site surpassed half a million visitors since its August 2002 launch. Jeff Chon's Arbiter of Good Taste, reviewing graphic novels and trade paperbacks, debuted in March.
ContinuityPages.com plans to expand its regular features to include additional columns. It also plans to continue expanding The Continuity Pages as well as its roster of articles, annotations, chronologies, and interviews. Although ContinuityPages.com would like to entertain big plans, its next step is to generate enough revenue to begin to compensate for the countless hours that ContinuityPages.com represents, thus allowing for further expansion.
